The interest produced by the existence of amber deposits in the area, the preoccupations of the inhabitants for the exploitation and processing of this fossilized resin determined the organization of the Colţi Museum Collection, inaugurated on June 14, 1980.

The initiative to set up this collection dates back to 1973, when the construction of a building in the architectural style specific to the area began, a study was drawn up on the exploitation and processing of amber and, at the same time, the action of collecting nuggets, instruments and tools used by locals, as well as documents regarding the history of the area and the village of Colţi.
Also nicknamed the Amber Museum, unique in the country for the variety and size of amber exhibits, the collection, inaugurated with the resumption of the folk festival Floare de Colţi and reorganized in 1983, 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2020.

After the rehabilitation of the building in 2019, the museum reopened in August....

After the rehabilitation of the building in 2019, the museum reopened in August 2020, in a new exhibition concept, presenting to the public the amber collection: nuggets of different sizes, jewelry (rings, earrings, pendants, beads, etc.), extraction tools and amber processing (wooden lathe, hammers, lamps, pickaxe). The exhibition presents information about the scientist Gh. Munteanu-Murgoci (1872-1925), founder of the Romanian school of pedology and author of the paper "Succin deposits in Romania" (the first thesis in mineralogy in Romania).

The basic exhibitions also capitalize on the collection of mine flowers and paleoarchaeological exhibits from the patrimony of the Buzău County Museum.
